There are hundreds of cities and towns in India. India is a developing nation and about 40% of people live in urban areas including towns and cities. The population of India increasing faster than estimated and could take China soon.

Delhi is the largest city in India and one of the populous in the World with a population of about 28 million. Mumbai is the second most populous city with 20 million inhabitants. Kolkata and Bangalore are the second and third largest cities respectively. Bangalore was a small city a few decades ago, now it is a notable city in India. The largest cities in India are ranked by the total population of the metropolitan area.
